Rating 4.73 out of 5 15 reviews
I’ve been at gunter most of my life. The teachers are wonderful and they work so hard to try and make an impact, yet they receive little to no support from their administrators. Our sports program is phenomenal, but sometimes students feel that if they’re not involved in athletics, then they’re invisible. Our academics are phenomenal but most students describe it as similar to drowning. The student body appears to be pretty unified, BUT only if they are white, straight and cisgender. If your student does not fit the southern cookie cutter standard, they will have a tough time trying to be accepted. Gunter is definitely not known for it’s diversity. It’s had several issues with racism and homophobia within the student body. But in the same token, if you fit in and find a good group, you have the chance to excel. All this to say that, your student could have a good experience at gunter, but they could also have the absolute worst.
I love this school with all my heart. I moved from a larger school district that didn't pay attention to student needs and issues which I always had a problem with, so when I moved to Gunter in the middle of 8th grade, it was like a new door had opened. I was accepted with loving arms and the teachers made sure I felt welcomed and appreciated. I can say the same thing for the high school. The teachers want what is best for their students and go the extra mile to fulfill students' needs and issues. Even though I am sad to leave this school and its lovely family feel, I am excited for my new chapter in life!
A very tight-knit community and school district. The teachers at all levels are excellent, understanding, and kind.
