At my high school, students are focused and demonstrate a great amount of care for their future. Sometimes it feels like I attend a college preparatory school rather than a public school. College is in reach for a lot of us. We live in an affluent area where money is not short. Our teachers care about setting us up to succeed and a lot of our parents want to see good report cards. However, it a an upsetting eyeopener that a large majority of us are white. There is a great lack of diversity and experience. Sometimes, it feels like I live in a bubble surrounded by people who come from similar experiences. I am grateful for my experience, but dream that it was more accessible for Black, Asian, Indian, Mexican, families and students. We all deserve equal opportunities.
It is a lovely district! The administration can sometimes be a little strange in their decisions, but the teachers are amazing and I feel like this district has truly prepared me for life.
Overall, Geneva was a good high school. Our academics were good and teachers often are willing to help students. My only problems are the location (it’s crowded because it’s a “neighborhood school”), the lack of diversity, and sometimes the adults are unwilling to listen to students’ grievances about the school.
