Overall, my experience in the Gates Chili district was extraordinary. Course wise, there were so many opportunities offered for students in different fields to explore their interests. The environment was very loving and I can say that as a recent graduate, I will miss my class and the staff at Gates because we made a family out of our 4 years. However, as a student of color I would like to have seen more diversity within the staff. There were only a few teachers that I felt like I could relate too and that actually cared for my success outside of school work. Every school has its pros and cons, but the pros definitely outweighed the cons at Gates and I would do the whole thing all over again if given the chance.

Gates-Chili is an amazing school district. The high school is very diverse. There are many extracurricular activities offered including sports, the musical, chess, math League, service club, etc. The school's architecture is amazing, especially the the field house including an upstairs track and a pool. The district has been preparing me for college since middle school, offering high school credit in the 8th grade. The counselors are attentive and check up on us to ensure we're applying and to inform us of the opportunities we have when it comes to scholarships and programs. There are many resources available for students like the business center, naviance, and most importantly, the teachers. The teachers are my greatest resource. They give me advice on where I should apply, help me relieve stress, and overall, they're there every day for moral support. It's hard not to view this school district positively. Now, as for the food...let's just say I bring my lunch!
I loved my time being at Gates Chili. I was nominated for National Honor Society. I was honored to be a part of their JV gymnastics team in seventh and eighth grade. During my freshman and sophomore years I was on the freshman and JV cheer leading teams, and those were my favorite years! We had so much fun and it really taught me how to work as a group and come together to achieve a common goal, even if we weren't all the best of friends. In my senior year at Gates Chili, I was enrolled in the New Visions Program, which really encouraged me to move on to college. Although I didn't attend college right after high school, it made me realize that maybe college wasn't so scary after all.
