I absolutely love my school district! I remember transferring from Richardson to garland my first grade year and I was terrified but the environment about my elementary school was amazing and so welcoming! Shoutout to you carver elementary! And then having to go to middle school and now High school, it’s been honestly terrific. I’m so glad I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of this district because it’s evolved throughout the years in a good way and I’m so thankful to have been through this district.
I have been in the Garland Independent School District since elementary school and I am a senior in high school now. Some of the best things about GISD are: 1. Choice of school - where students are allowed to submit to attend the school of their choice. This could be based on a multitude of things such as sports, specialization of courses, location, school report cards/ educational success rates etc. 2. Magnet schools - each high school in GISD has a specific area of education or career they focus on. They include anything from Math and Science to Arts, Technology, Career learning and education. Garland has a community type culture and holds many events to bring all students in the district together. They are extremely focused on helping students succeed and will create and offer opportunities and tools to students to help them succeed in furthering their education or helping them to find the right career path for them. It is a very specialized district that keep the best at heart.
Garland ISD, Rowlett High School particularly, easily adapted to the necessary changes needed to ensure the education of their students during COVID pandemic. I feel as though the teachers and staff stepped up to maintain classroom and virtual expectations and they were readily available when needed. I have had nothing but positive experiences in Garland ISD since starting in the 3rd grade.
