I have seen my children through elementary, intermediate, middle, and high school in FISD and have had a great experience throughout all. All of the teachers I met truly cared for my kids and got to know them as their own person. They used that knowledge to teach my kids in a way that they could learn the best. There were very few teachers my kids didn’t “like”. My kids genuinely enjoyed their years growing up in the FISD schools. Oh and the high school college prep programs all of the kids benefit from is unlike anything I’ve seen offered in other schools, including the private schools I attended as a child.
Friendswood has excellent teachers, and a lot of community pride. excelling academically is made easy and I could tell that most teachers and faculty really cared about us as students. There are some downsides though. Because it is an independent school district, smaller art programs don't have much funding. Most funding goes towards sports and athletics. Also there is so many problems with the building itself. The plumbing is bad and makes the hallways stink a lot. And construction on the roof has caused us to have to be evacuated during class twice, due to smoke setting off the fire alarms. Another problem is it is very competitive. Almost every student is in AP classes, and this can make it hard to stand out. Overall I really liked my experience here though. The community is really tight knit but still welcoming.
Friendswood is a very welcoming and tight-knit community, everyone in my school knows each other and we all have the ability to connect because of that. With that being said it's hard to see how the school board responds to the recent teachers leaving. Not many students know the true reason to why our teachers are leaving the high school and it seems that no one is willing to answer that question. Overall I haven't had a bad experience in our school system throughout my junior high and high school life.
