There is a massive problem with racism, sexism, and homophobia in this school. The admin does nothing about it and they pretend it isn't a problem. This school will traumatize your kids. The obvious racism is so bad here that the wrestling coach ignores it so his players can still play in an upcoming match. Most kids who go here are spoiled rich kids who get everything they want in life, or they are either drug addicts who act like they are in the hood when they are in fact in Rockford. Freeman is a joke and will never get better especially with the admin ignoring everything or just reading books on racism. This school is such a joke.
Its was the best school ever! I am so beyond glad I had the opportunity to experience the community as a whole all amazing people great teachers, great staff especially Joe the janitor LOVE that guy
I love how accepting and loving this whole community is! After our school shooting, it was very comforting to come back to a place where it slowly became like home again. We overcame this hardship and made our district better because of it!
I have been very involved in the school the last 2 years. There is an extremely welcoming environment overall as far as classes, sports, and clubs. Most parents are very involved as well. Very family-friendly.
The whole district is so tight-knit and compassionate. Everyone knows everyone and the administration is great and understanding of the students, while making necessary changes.
My experience at Freeman High School could have been a lot better. I believe that the counselor at Freeman lacks hard work which effects the students in bad ways. Although the counselor is bad and the Administration is corrupt, the teachers truly are amazing and work very hard at what they do. The student body is also very close but is unfortunately mainly middle class white people which is monotonous and boring.
Typical close-knit, small school, that comes with the difficulties of exclusion and PR stunts. However, staff is passionate in what they do and students are very friendly with one another. I was not faced with any challenging classes-limited honors/AP classes.
Freeman was a great environment to grow up in. The elementary school teachers cared a lot about individual improvements and achievements, and those were the best years I experienced at this school. When I got to the age of entering high school, the teachers and staff were completely different. They were obnlivious to what students had going on at home, and they didn't try to get to know students unless they were well known. I experienced high school and tried to make the best of it, but the main influences that allow students to feel safe didn't act as role models. If I could change anything at this school, it would be the communication between the staff of the school and the students. There have been so many times where I have had to talk to teachers about graduation and scholarships when it should have been an obvious subject to educate student on.
Freeman High School truly shows what it means to have a community that is like family. It's a small town with excellent teachers, an amazing community, and even better students. Being a 13 year senior at this district, I can say that I wouldn't of spent these years of my childhood anywhere else. Since the school shooting, we've been tested, and you can truly see that no other school would be able to handle something this hard and bounce back as quickly as us.
I have been attending Freeman School District since pre-school so overall I have been there for thirteen years. Freeman is one of the greatest public schools you will ever visit and/or attend. It has a true family atmosphere, devoted teachers and staff, and all around great students. Freeman not only prepares you for your future but supplies you with a new family, one who will always be with you.
I transferred out to the Freeman School District in 7th grade. This year I am a Senior and can honestly say it was a life changing experience. I was fortunate enough to know quite a few kids when I transferred out, so the transition was very easy. Having said that, I feel that even if I hadn't known quite a bit of kids, the community at the school would have been very welcoming. I loved the "family" feel of the schools and like how the high school, middle school and elementary schools all looked at it like "We Are Freeman"...not "you are a freshman", etc..
I was able to participate in sports, band, leadership, honor society and many clubs. Friendships were made across all barriers. Freeman was a great choice for me and has helped me become the man I am today. The values and friendships I have created will always be with me.
