FRHSD provides countless opportunities that had a lasting impact on me. Experimenting with various electives enabled me to shape my identity and path for the future. I created preschool lesson plans, played piano, etched a scratchboard, and even wrote a novel. Not only did I learn many diverse skills, I learned about myself. I am thankful for all of the experiences I took part in, including the ones I did not enjoy or shine in.
None of it could have been possible without the friendly and helpful staff. Besides help with schoolwork, many helped with personal issues by giving advice and simply checking in. Knowing that the staff truly supports me and wants me to succeed in and outside the classroom made me feel valued.
The only thing that should change is the rigor of the classes. Once I received "guided" notes that were completed! I was disappointed when I wasted time in subjects I was interested in. I know I could have learned more, and that FRHSD can actualize that.

The school itself is pretty excellent, with great teachers and smart students. However, most of the students are condescending, and difficult to talk to for whatever reason. Borough High School is a little old, and it is very very cold in certain parts of the school in the winter, and even in the warmer weather. The school also has a problem with racism, particularly among the white students. It’s not as bad as some other schools in the district but it is still there nonetheless. All in all, it can be very hard to fit into the school’s culture, but the academics and programs in the school are modern and fresh, providing many opportunities for students to figure out what they want to do later in life.
With three years of experience in the Freehold Regional High School District, specifically attending Howell High School, I have encountered many positive experiences. The academics are nothing less than great; there are about two magnet programs at each school which provides an array of opportunities that prepare students for college. I am in the Fine and Performing Arts program and have been taught so much about the real and professional world from my teachers. This program will put me at an advantage once I am in college, as other students across the country do not have the opportunity of partaking in a rigorous magnet program that is specifically catered to their desired career path. Aside from the magnet programs, I truly believe that every teacher in my school exceeds at their job. I have learned so much and find each course I have taken to be extremely interesting and engaging. This school district provides exceptional opportunities and I am extremely grateful to be part of it.
