FWCS is an incredibly diverse district where any kid can find a friend. I have always felt safe going to school because the FWCS staff make each school a positive environment to get an education. I feel comfortable going to almost any adult with a personal or school related problem. The only issues that I have with the school I attend are the bathroom situations and the punishments for being tardy to a class. Kids shouldn't have to fill out a waiver to use the restroom, especially if it's an emergency, and no more than two bathrooms should ever be locked at a time. When students are late to a class, they shouldn't be reprimanded by walking down to the cafeteria to get a late pass, that just takes even more time away from that student's education. Being a couple minutes late because a student was using the restroom doesn't really take away much of their learning time, but making them walk to the other side of the school just to get a slip of paper makes them miss important instructions.
Overall, my experience with Fort Wayne Community Schools has been enjoyable with my only concern being lack of information when it comes to announcements and important dates. I feel they lack in communication and would like to see this improved by the time my sibling enters middle school. They provide free lunch meals that I would say is adequate, the learning experience is inconsistent ranging from terrible to engaging and exciting. The district overall I feel, prepares you for college well; however, SAT preparation comes out of left field and the importance of it is never fully conveyed until senior year which I feel is too late for many who want to be prepared in advance.
I have always felt at home in FWCS schools. I cannot vouch for those I did not attend, but the staff at my current high school is all very supportive and always available to help me when I need something! The ratings I have given are mostly based off my current high school.
