When I first entered FBISD(from overseas), I didn't feel very much welcomed by or introduced to the system. I feel like I was expected to know "basics" or established policies without being officially informed. My advice is that they establish a "tour-guide" program for students new to the country or even to FBISD! It should be as basic as possible, down to the ABCs. They should also improve their means of communication. Decisions made by the Board down to Democratic Actions involving Teachers should be EASILY and READILY available to students, if not spelled out to us.
Though, currently in my senior year of high school, FBISD has shown immense curiosity, attention, and concern towards our college readiness plans which has eased my mind quite the bit. They have provided opportunities for students to inquire about colleges and trade schools, and frequent announcements concerning deadlines(scholarships, college applications). They also encourage us to not shy away from the Ivy's!

As a student in FBISD for nearly 11 years, I have been able to see the progression of my academics over time. At least in STEM classes, the passion from students drives the improvement of the courses so that we learn beyond, say, AP curriculum. However, in the liberal arts classes, we often find ourselves restricted to either what the AP covers - because the time that we have for class isn't enough to learn more - or something tangentially related to the exam, instead of something that will certainly be on it.
These academics seem to hinder our extracurricular performance as well. A district like Katy ISD seems to have more success in clubs because parents can be much more involved in their schools' success and drive the motivation for students to perform well. Without the support that we can get from our parents, I believe FBISD will continue to rank behind districts like Katy ISD.
I hope these discrepancies will be fixed in FBISD's future, even if I won't be there to see them!
