I am an FHS Alumni. I graduated in 2004. The teachers I had were supportive and encouraged my class and me to do well and turn in homework on time. There is one teacher who stands out the most to me, Mr. Torres. He taught my AVID class. He motivated, encouraged, and spoke about his life experiences as a first-generation Chicano to go to school. He was the first teacher to talk about college and scholarships. As a first-generation High school graduate, he has made a difference in my education.
I strongly would encourage FHS and all High schools in the country/world to teach finances. This would help us prepare to read contracts and understand the value of money, stocks, and loans. Many High school graduates are left to figure out a car loan payment, rent payments, and groceries as they continue with their education, and turn to apply for student loans with high interest rates. This can help in detering high student debt.

Fillmore Unified School District has a tight knit community. They offer many things to engage the students and help with learning. They try to allow each student an opportunity to find what they are good at. However, their main problem is safety and back up plans. The schools do not have a good enough plan of keeping each sctudent safe. They are do not have any plans when there are emergencies or seem to have basic emergency training that may not fit our schools.
Being in the Fillmore Unified School District for the last 12 years I would have to say that this district only cares about the money that comes out of student education. They hire teachers that do not even care about trying to help students further their education. There has been a lot of bullying and drugs around the schools. Administration doesn't do anything to try and solve this problem. They should get teachers that want to help students. There are some teachers that really want to help students and it shows in how they act towards the students.
