While I may not have lived in Kentucky my whole life or grown up in this area, since moving to Lexington and beginning school at Frederick Douglass High School I have never felt more at home. Moving my senior year was tough, but I was never discouraged from getting the best education I could receive and was lucky enough to end up in an amazing school district that made the moving transition super easy. Administrators were very helpful when I registered for classes and I have many amazing teachers who have challenged and assisted me along my educational journey. Being a new school, there is always room for improvement; but teachers and administrators are well aware of this and have implemented new rules and policies to match the needs of the school. Overall, Fayette county is a great school district and I am very lucky to have moved here my senior year!

I have been in the Fayette County Public School system for my entire high school career. My school provided a strong academic workload and the advanced classes I wanted to take. The county enforced an academy system where the school was divided into 4 career paths. I believe the academies are wrong as they only separate students further, cause more stress to teachers, and only help students who want to go into the medical, business, and engineering fields. Everyone else is not catered too and because there are no electives outside of these academies, it's harder for students to find things they actually enjoy.
While I have many complaints with the county, I do commend their effort to protect the students mental and physical health. Every school has metal detectors and safety officers. And as well as having guidance counselors and college coaches, we have a mental health advisor that is always available if students need anything, whether it be advice or just someone to listen.
The teachers at the schools are absolutely phenomenal, they care deeply about their students and strive to help them succeed. The principals at the schools constantly try to better understand their staff and students. The school district makes sure to take the safety of their staff and students very seriously. Metal detectors were implemented along with safety officers in order to ensure the safety of the personnel inside of the buildings. The maintenance department makes sure that all the buildings are well taken care of and that there are no leaks or broken doors. Overall this school district is amazing and needs to be better appreciated for how hard they work.
