The diversity at East Stroudsburg High School South is excellent. There are numerous clubs and activities to participate in. There are not a lot of AP courses and more Honors courses should be offered in the Arts! The guidance counselor I had could have been much more involved and helpful. There is too much emphasis on State testing which takes away from our academic learning period, especially since we are a semester based high school. The school is pretty safe when compared to others in the district. Many sports are offered and there is very active participation in after school activities with activity buses to bring students home. Our district is in conjunction with Monroe Career Technical Institute where students go half day for their career choice and do their core courses at their high school . Students can graduate with a dual degree and diploma which is wonderful for those who choise to have a jump start on their chosen career.
SO many city kids moving in. Poverty, gangs, no parent responsibility. Not feeling safe in school. Too much time spent on troubled and low learning level learning kids. More time should be spent on kids who want to excel. Guidance counselors spend more time on troubled kids than kids we want to go to a great college. Admin doesn't take teachers concerns into account when making decisions. Huge disconnect between teachers and admin. They should go back to challenge classrooms. Higher level learning kids are helping to teach those that need the most help. With there be SO many of them, these kids are suffering because of it.
My experience being educated at East Stroudsburg High School South has been full of positives, and negatives. But, the "goods" outweigh the "bads." There are many social aspects of the school that many people do not enjoy, but teenagers will be teenagers. Teachers, administration and staff try their hardest to make high school enjoyable and safe. The extracurricular activities, spirit weeks, daily broadcasts all make going to school better. All teachers are very kind and always willing to help students if they need it, and everyone is supportive. I think that there could be more awareness brought to subjects that are rarely discussed, but are present and important.
