East Allen County Schools could be considered an acceptably school system. In my time at Leo Jr. Sr. High School, I have had an almost impressively average experience. My main issues would be the lack of sanitation and the lack of non-sport-related extra curricular activities. Firstly, the bathrooms appear as if they are rarely cleaned. In the men's bathroom in the cafeteria specifically, half of the stalls do not have doors, and the ones that do either don't close all the way or lock. Despite this, the administration felt it was necessary to brand new, automatic flushing and water flow systems to the old toilets and sinks. The priorities of the administration very questionable on a good day. Secondly, extra curriculars that are related to sports are few and far between. The sports program is very well organized and well funded, while there are hardly any opportunities for the less athletic or unwilling to participate in sports. Overall, I would rate the EACS system a 3/5.
EACS did a great job of supporting me and my classmates throughout the process of deciding what to do after high school. They do a great job of preparing students for their futures. I went to Heritage High School and I appreciated how there were options other than college that they also had the resources to help students prepare for. One thing I wish was better was the class selection. Heritage is one of the smaller schools in the district and there weren’t very many options for different classes we could take. Most teachers were great at teaching their subject though, and classes covered lots of material.
This will be my fourth year, attending a school within the East Allen County district, and it has been an overall positive experience. During the Covid-19 pandemic, East Allen County Schools have been very mindful of their student’s health and overall well being. The school has been following CDC guidelines, in order to ensure their students remain in good health. Despite this, school lunches aren’t very nutritional. Students are not able to receive proper nutrition from the provided lunches. Due to this, most students must pack their lunches. On the contrary, East Allen County Schools is generally above average, with a 17:1 student-teacher ratio. Overall, this is a small ratio.
