What I enjoy of the Dickinson Independent School District is the care, involvement, thoughtfulness, and diversity within all of the schools. The district is very determined to be the best district in town not to mention the exceptional sports teams, academic readiness, and amazing staff. One thing I would change is the lack of involvement of letting students exhibit their own creativity. This can be a burden to some but can ultimately if allowed to be expressed can lead to an open door of opportunities. It is safe to say that your child/student will be in amazing hands under any situation or circumstance as it is very important to the district and staff to ensure a safe environment by the use of protocol, rules, emergency practices and drills. The outstanding teachers, counselors, principals, janitors, staff; create an amazing atmosphere for students to be in. This District is recommended because it allows for your mind to open up to new ideas, people, conversations, and perspectives.
My experience at Dickinson High School was a variety of mood swings due to the pandemic. I am currently a junior and a third year member on the drill team for some background information. Before the pandemic of COVID-19, my freshman and halfway through my sophomore year, started out great and I had absolutely no problem socializing to making new friends, besides from the fact of the unfairness that some extra curricular activities are receiving were favored more than others by staff. Currently in my junior year, most teachers are very cautious of keeping the classroom sanitized and clean to avoid COVID-19 spreading making me feel safe, but unfortunately there are a handful of teachers that do not take the pandemic as serious causing me to have consideration of my safety. My hope of change at Dickinson High School is to have all sports, fine arts, clubs, etc. to have a equal amount of support by the district and staff. As well as every staff to take COVID-19 as a serious matter.
Dickinson is so welcoming to everyone! Theres a lot to offer at Dickinson and many event are held to make school fun. There’s great teachers who are always willing to help. The only thing I would change is that we’re one of the only districts who aren’t allowed to wear shorts, however, we’re allowed to wear skirts and dresses!
