Derry Township School District Reviews
It’s the ideal high school experience on paper. Great resources, helpful teachers, great sports programs, a ton for the arts, and great balance overall. However, being a part of the school is a little different. As it is currently COVID-19 season, we are a week behind in e-learning due to the administration claiming “difference in resources” even though neighboring districts aren’t having issues. There are too many fights for the school’s own good and typical dumb actions out of a portion of students (freshmen). If you’re a good student, you’ll like it at Derry.
As a consolidated elementary school, each primary grade has 200+ children. MANY behavioral issues in the classrooms. Lunchroom, recess, and classroom aides are verbally abusive to the young children. Teachers are disgruntled due to major restructuring. General Ed teachers are not receiving adequate training for student mental health issues that are being integrated into the classroom. If you are considering moving into the district, do not rely on the propaganda on the district website. The district over invests in the high school to get high rankings, but that does not filter down to the elementary and middle schools. Counselors are understaffed based on recommended counselor to student ratios, and quite frankly inadequate. Bullying and violence is prevalent but hidden by administration. VERY poor experience. Do not expect your experience at the Early Childhood Center (K & 1) to be the same as primary. Quality goes downhill upon second grade.
Overall most people are very friendly. There are definitely cliques just like any other school, but most people are accepting. If you reach out to teachers, they definitely do their best to provide resources for the students. For most teachers, I feel like they care about both the students and their grades in class. They will be nice to you if treat them with respect.
