Derry Area School District Reviews
Derry Area High School is full of people that want you to succeed. Anyone from the teachers, administration and coaches to the lunch ladies and janitors are welcoming and friendly towards all students. Everyone here knows each other on a name to name basis. There's rarely any bullying. If the school was in a more diverse, accepting environment and the facilities were more modern, I would give higher ratings. The college counseling is also little to none, which is unfortunate and frustrating to a senior.
I enjoyed the friendships I've made and many of the teachers have excellent teaching methods. The athletic sports programs offered a variety of opportunities for students. I however would change the Guidance office counselors and the amount of time they are available to students to help with career goals. Our school district focuses on promoting college to the middle school students who are struggling just to find themselves and become individuals. There are not enough career fairs in our school to engage students and promote college for juniors and seniors.
It prepares you for college. I was fortunate enough to be accepted and attend the Computer Science Program and accepted into the National Technical Honor Society. Derry prepared me to obtain high scores and a GPA. The teachers care about their students and careers. They also teach you how to be responsible to prepare you for the real world after graduation. There are so many great opportunities at Derry Area School, but you have to strive to do your best. Nothing is handed to you in life, so if you want to achieve it, you have to reach for the stars. Derry has prepared me to be accepted into the Engineering Program at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. It is going to be a wonderful opportunity for myself and my future.
