Decatur Independent School District Reviews
The experience here at Decatur High school is very enlightening, the Administrators, teachers, students are very kind and welcoming. They make it easy for someone who didn't make a smooth transition from a City to a small town. It been a better experience of making friends, getting work done, burden free and stress free. Teachers are very well concerned for your success that they will do anything to see you succeed even if you don't do it the first time. The administrators are very well organized and trained to do their job fast and efficiently. But on the flipside some students don't consider your own safety vital even if no is watching them other than that teachers know what goes on and reinforces the rules to secure the students from potential harm.
The district as a whole is fairly unorganized and dismissive. The school board often makes changes or alterations that are unhelpful to the actual student body. Prevalent information (such as times, dates, or prices) are often miscommunicated to the parents and students. The administration has a habit of disregarding what is best for students and focuses less on the student body's actual education and more so on standardized testing. For seniors particularly, there are very few resources to help guide students in plans after graduation. The teachers are very poor and the administration tends to disregard complaints from students about the poor education they are receiving from their classes. The school's culture is poor and the district simply attempts to make Decatur High appear sophisticated rather than attempting to actually alter the culture itself.
I started attending Decatur ISD as a second grader and I have enjoyed my experience here throughout that entire time. Most of my teachers have treated me with respect, and showed that they truly cared. I've felt this way about all of the administrators as well. I have never felt like I was being held back by the school. In fact, in fifth grade, my math teacher noticed I had a special talent for math, and urged me to skip a full grade of it. From that year on, the district has always been extremely accommodating, and even sent me on my own bus to transport to different campuses for my advanced math class.
