My high school experience at BHS was a very fun one as, being a very small town, I was surrounded by good friends who made my experience very memorable. Further, our school is rather new and very accommodating, comfortable and safe with regard to physical aspects. Also, we were afforded numerous of extra-curricular activities and our sports teams were always competitive and fun. Having said that, our school system does not adequately prepare college bound students for AP exams or the rigors of college. Myself and others have had to take it upon ourselves to prepare extra to make up for a curriculum and certain teachers who do not adequately lay out the appropriate coursework for such preparation. I did, however, have some teachers who were incredible at their jobs and did a wonderful job of teaching. There were just too many others, especially in advanced classes, who were not as prepared and effective.

Decatur County schools need more STEM funding, and many of the clubs at the high school were participation award in nature.
High school is very nice and new , but middle schools are run down buildings and old. Many clubs and teams to join and other activities to be a part of. Teachers are good in the average level classes and great in the top level / honors classes. Very diverse for a small town.
