My experience at City Schools of Decatur for the 2018-19 school year was very interesting. The teachers were amazing and prided themselves on inclusion. The teachers made sure that all of the students understood what was going on in the classroom. The school had an organization for new students to ease the transitioning process. The grading scale is a little confusing since because of the International Baccalaureate program. The school is very spacious and administration makes sure that the school is safe and that the classrooms are a comfortable learning environment. The school does have block days which can be confusing starting the school year out, but it is very beneficial. Overall the school is amazing.

Decatur is good and all, but there is no real diversity. The property values skyrocketed once the schools got good, and then they got a whole lot better because more money starting flowing into them. This forced a lot of minorities out of the area. But, Decatur at least tries to make an effort to keep its schools moving in a progressive, liberal direction. With non-gendered homecoming and prom courts as well as many student unions, Decatur is definitely more open-minded than most.
I have been at Decatur City Schools since preschool and am currently a senior. One thing that I really love about the school district is how much the strong community is attached to it. As a high school student I have seen many members of the community reach out to students to offer jobs and volunteer opportunities. There are lots of local businesses that are willing to support athletics and clubs as well. Having this support allows you to also create a network of people around you from your start of school.
Another cool thing about Decatur is the structure of the schools. There is a preschool, a few k-2 schools, a few 3-4-5 schools, then one middle school where kids come together and finally the high school. Each of these schools are IB, meaning there is a lot global culture taught from day one.
