I am a current student attending one of Decatur City schools and so far I feel like the whole faculty and administration has definitely put in the work, time, and dedication needed in order to prepare me and my fellow peers a successful future. The investment of their time and planning never goes unnoticed as they make sure each student receive the resources they need in order to move forward, with their extra curricular activities, clubs, and tutoring. I truly feel that Decatur City schools prepares and aligns there student’s in a path for a successful future.
Decatur High has a lot to offer with endless resources and encouragement. It's an environment conducive to learning , exploring, developing.
My overall school experience with Decatur City Schools has not been very good. In Elementary School I was bullied because of my weight. I would try to avoid the bullying students Even when my teachers were around because they would put problems like that to the side and tell me to try to make friends with the ones I was being bullied by. Although it is very Diverse, The teachers could not hide their racism towards certain minorities of students. They have always treated caucasians with much more respect over African Americans and Also Hispanics. My 8th grade year being at Brookhaven Middle School, I was told that most likely I would not graduate all because I was black along with my other peers. I made it out of that School with my head held high. Now I am a senior In highschool with less obstacles and more opportunity.
