My overall school experience with Decatur City Schools has not been very good. In Elementary School I was bullied because of my weight. I would try to avoid the bullying students Even when my teachers were around because they would put problems like that to the side and tell me to try to make friends with the ones I was being bullied by. Although it is very Diverse, The teachers could not hide their racism towards certain minorities of students. They have always treated caucasians with much more respect over African Americans and Also Hispanics. My 8th grade year being at Brookhaven Middle School, I was told that most likely I would not graduate all because I was black along with my other peers. I made it out of that School with my head held high. Now I am a senior In highschool with less obstacles and more opportunity.

Overall, Decatur City Schools is a wonderful school system. Having attended Decatur City schools all my life - as a elementary, middle, and high school student - I can personally attest to their excellence. The academics are top notch. The teachers are knowledge in their field and very dedicated to their students. The classrooms themselves are diverse - filled with all different kinds of people. As an elementary school student, I interacted with African American, Latinx, Asian, and Jewish children, and learned how to tolerate and accept differences because of it. School spirit is very high in general. With most students attending every football game, and most other sporting events. I could barely turn around in my high school without spotting someone sporting a "Decatur High" t-shirt or jacket. The food, however, is awful with administrators looking to cut costs and calories instead of providing truly nourishing and healthy food for the students.
Decatur City Schools is great. I had started in the 4th grade and they were so supportive with everything sense I had been homeschooled and started living with my grandmother who is husband is no longer living. When I started high school though I would say it kinda went down a little but for the superintendent walking out there doing the best they can. Tough I understand it is not a perfect school system because there is no perfect system Decatur City Schools is doing it best with the Career Tech Center and with the two new high schools. We have just started the Jr. High which is at the old Austin High School so now we have Austin High school Decatur High school Austin Jr. High Decatur Middle school Cedar Ridge Middle school and all our elementary Schools.
