I enjoyed my time at District 7 schools. I always felt safe and felt motivated to succeed. The staff were all wonderful and the teachers genuinely cared about their students. Being an open district allowed for much diversity in the classroom. I felt that there were a lot of opportunities to grow, however my only critique is that during my enrollment, there were not many advanced placement courses for students at the high school. I would have liked to have courses that could have counted towards college credit. The honors classes I had taken were just as difficult as first year college courses, many were repetitive, but unfortunately did not count towards college.
The school district 7 of Dearborn Heights does well to make families feel more involved in their child's education. They reach out to families frequently and allow them to voice opinions on changes in the district and educational resources. For example, we have recently gotten a new technology bond passed for our schools, and improved technological resources for students of all grade levels. District 7 has also embraced School of Choice students and welcomed them into the community, establishing well rounded diversity. However, as each district must have a small or large flaw, I would only change one thing about my school district. The food, while very healthy, could be improved. With diversity comes multicultural students who need to be accommodated for, and by adding more vegetarian options, District 7 will extend varying options to students who don't eat meat because of their religious or social views.
My three children all go to D7 schools. My oldest starts high school next year and my younger 2 both go to their assigned elementaries. The district as a whole is good. Next year when the elementary schools go back to normal I will give 5 stars!
