Compared to other school districts I have been in, Davenport Community School District lacks dedicated administration, teachers, and staff. The variety of classes offered at the high school level is poor, with few higher level classes. This past year, the district has disposed of several AP courses. On top of the course selection, the district has poor funding. Although there are four high schools total, each school receives a different amount of funding per year. Therefore, the quality of education is unequal between parts of the city.

Our district is a mess. The administrators can not make decisions and keep them, nothing can get done correctly, and the teachers have little to no vote in the changes made. We are switched back and forth as the administrators make a single choice and then switch back as they go back and forth until it’s too late to change it anymore. Last year the district did not even get the contracts to the teachers until long after they were supposed to be out. We are extremely late for registering for AP exams and I have not heard a single word about them from counselors or principals. The district is also more focused on students being given referrals and suspended too much rather than looking deeper to figure out why so many students are needing to be suspended. So many of my teachers have talked about how there are changes they, and many other teachers, wish were made but nobody ever listens to them and they are stuck with the current situation.
I have attended Davenport Community Schools from my first day of kindergarten. Since then, I have had no problems with administration. The administration staff holds themselves to a very high standard and achieve this each and everyday. At every school I have attended within the district I have always been able to have at least one teacher who I could go to for anything and they would point me in the right direction. I have had some problems but students in the past but the staff has been able to help the situation and limit it as much as possible. However, it does seem that students keep getting rowdier and rowdier as the years go on, the staff is trying to do their best to control these students but are mostly unsuccessful in their attempts. Besides the rowdiness of the students being on the rise, overall the Davenport Community School District is a fairly good school district to be a part of.
