Danville Community High School has some great teachers and I’ve made so many friends along the way. However, a lot of the students have very homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, and racist views. Living in a small conservative town makes it difficult to express my identity as a bisexual. My friends also live in fear of being hated for their identities. I wish that the school would also acknowledge that our mascot is racist. I wish the school would run better background checks on teachers so we don’t get another abuser or pedophile. I wish that my school can soon see their flaws from a larger light to make the students feel safer. Overall my school has been ok. They don’t recognize the Drama Club often, but I’m proud to be part of it. I’ve learned so much from theater that I could never get out of a textbook, and without it I wouldn’t have all the amazing friends I do today.
The school overall is good, it has some really nice teachers and great guidance counselors. There are a handful of AP classes offered and lots of extracurriculars.
In my opinion, Danville is a slightly above average school system. At this small school you will see more one-on-one time with teachers than any bigger school. Like most schools, however, Danville needs to see some change. The town in general needs to include more of it's funding to the school. With a referendum, we can see some changes in the outdated building from the 1970s. I would also like to see more inclusion and diversity in the school. Danville is a pretty suburban town with outdated beliefs that are in desperate need of change.
