Rating 4.05 out of 5 21 reviews
My experience with the COJUSD district was all over the place. There was some years that felt the teachers were doing the bare minimum and other times where they were trying their hardest to prepare me for college. The activities at this school were extremely limited but resourceful. I felt like this school focused more on sports rather than academics. There were a vast amount of teachers who would only teach one year and most were still teaching while still finishing their education. The suicide prevention this school had was enough to make anyone aware of the dangers and signs a person might have. However, the limited interaction some counselors had with the students made it difficult for students to reach out to them. I found it less effective that we would only get a therapist only two days out of the week, more or less. This school district had an extremely low diversity rate. Most students in the cutler orosi unified school district was either latino or asian americans.
My district has done a good job on providing technology for students during these tough times. I would like to see the district get more involved in the music program in the high school just as they do with other sports. The middle school needs a better music program and it all starts with the music teacher. The high school band director has done an excellent job with both middle school and high school bands but he can use some help. He is focused on the high school and can't get distracted by teaching both band therefore the district should hire a good middle school band director. I also believe teachers should get paid more. They don't get paid enough to deal with some students. Also when students complain about teachers, instead of firing a teacher on the bat they should do more research on why the teacher acted that way. The district should be careful because they could lose good teachers.
My experience with Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District was very eye-opening for me. I volunteered as a teaching assistant last summer at an elementary school program and I realized the value of an education. Seeing younger kids struggling to complete their activities reminded me of myself when I would also struggle. I had a hard time at school because I was an English language learner and it was my only source of learning. I look back at my years in the district and I am very thankful and appreciative of the teachers who have taught me well and who have rooted for me ever since I was a kid. I know these kids will receive some great help from different people who work within the district. One thing the district can change is finding creative ways to teach. Implementing creativity into school lessons, subjects, or activities will definitely students want to learn and explore their learnings, especially at a young age when the mind is open to many different and creative things.
