I’ve been at Coppell High school since Freshman year. I’ve enjoyed the experience but since there were 4000 student at the school, I didn’t feel like I got the special attention I needed. There was so much more I could do to advance my education but the culture stopped me from achieving my goals. I felt as though sports were more valued than academics. STEM is the future and we need to focus on getting high schools more aligned with that future. A lot of the teachers didn’t care about education with a few exceptions. This school has a very big cheating culture as well. I’ve realized the mistakes I’ve made. In college I am going to learn because it will help me later and not just for grades.
I really enjoy Coppell Independent School District because of the opportunities they provide to students like me. They offer an abundance of technology that improves our quality of learning, along with classes that will help prepare us for the future. It is a very safe and secure school district, as I appreciate all of the schools I have attended in Coppell Independent School District.
Coppell offers choice programs like IB and Dual Language Imnersion while also maintaining high academic standards in other areas.
The teachers here are highly qualified and the schools are well-maintained and/or newly built. CISD utilizes modern teaching techniques and each child is supplied with the technology they need.
PTOs are very involved and assist the schools, along with the Coppell Ed Foundation, by providing extra funds for enrichment activities and teacher grants.
The GPA system does foster hyper-competitiveness and needs to be re-evaluated. There is a high-pressure culture of cheating at the high school. This is a district filled with involved parents with high expectations, though, so it is unclear how much the district can reduce the pressure-cooker environment some of the students live in.
