I actually really like going to Coronado, despite people calling it “ghetto.” Our student body is super diverse, economically and ethnically. We have kids all the way from the trailer park by KFC to Black Forest and Kissing Camels. Whoever you are, you will definitely find your people at Coronado. And, I’ve had really great experiences with our teaching staff. They’ve shown that their priorities are their students, especially through the pandemic. Athletically, we’re pretty decent. It’s not our strong suit, but the volleyball, softball, and wrestling teams all made it to state last year. Overall, would definitely recommend! :)
The school district board members and district budget were in extreme demand for improvement. The board members had exacerbated the budget crisis by not spending the appropriate amount of money where it needed- and didn't need- to go. In my junior year in high school they had elected a new district board president who had started doing the necessary changes our schools needed. Unfortunately, the money needed for our schools was not there and many extra-curricular programs vanished and schools suffered. This directly impacted me and my fellow students. In my second half of high-school I was involved in the alternative schooling methods my district offered and I saw the direct effects of the budget crisis. Kids needed these programs bad and they weren't getting the attention they needed.
I have been in a District 11 school since Elementary School. Teachers are involved and care about student lives. Administration tries to always make students feel welcome and safe. Although a school or school district cannot be perfect, District 11 maintains a wonderful atmosphere with high levels of diversity. District 11 takes student safety and well being as a first priority whenever a crisis situation has occurred. District 11 schools have students that have amazing accomplishments such as: school achievements, leadership opportunities, scholarships/ awards, and college acceptances. My High School feels like a family and I’m proud to be a part of District 11. District 11 has provided myself (as well as other students) wonderful opportunities to reach our full potential and succeed. I am fully confident I will be prepared for college and the work force after graduation.
