I have been in the Clear Creek Independent School district for my entire life. Overall my experience has been positive. I love that I still have relationships with my elementary school teachers, and I often go back to help them in their classroom. I know that even as I continue on to college, I will keep in touch with many of my teachers. As I have gone through high school I have noticed that CCISD does not spend their money fairly. I am a diver at Clear Springs high school that is signed to the University of Utah, yet our program is not supported. Our diving boards have not been replaced since the school has opened, which makes it a severe safety hazard meanwhile football receives brand new gear every year.
Clear Creek ISD has had many ups and downs throughout the years that I've been a part of it. When I was younger, I thought it was amazing that the schools were able to be built onto and that they cared a lot about their students. But as I've grown up, I realized that those thoughts were far from the truth. Don't get me wrong, it's not the worst district ever, but it could definitely be improved. First I'd say they should be more involved with the kids' mental health. One way they could do this is to make groups more accessible and not put mental health onto their permanent record. Next, I'd like to see them correctly portion their money between school supplies, worker income, and much-needed upgrades. But in the end, I do appreciate that the school has a good program for low-income families, that provides cheaper prices (reduced lunch, exam fees, etc.), along with free lunches for said kids when they're out of school.
Clear Lake High School is a four-star school with many opportunities for everyone, except for any student that may come from outside the country. The credit validation system is genuinely abysmal, CCISD designed a system that actively hinders foreign students' development. As per CCISD policy, none of my previous high school credits or accomplishments were transferred, so Clear Lake views me as a student with zero credits. I am meant to be a senior, but due to having no credits, I’ve been assigned as a freshman in all school systems, having no real academic record, I have no GPA or class rank. I have also had to complete extra AP and dual credit classes, in addition to "credit by exam" exams, in an effort to rack up the 22 credits needed for graduation in just one year. Lake’s a great school, and I really do love some of my classes, but if you’re coming from a foreign country, the best thing you can do for your family’s academics is to steer clear of CCISD.
