Things got so bad recently we left for private school. Extremely dismayed because we had such a good experience initially and wanted to make Chelsea our permanent home, but if you don't want a toxic learning environment for your child don't go here: CRT is embraced; the schools keep secrets from parents about your own child re: gender/sexuality issues; children have access to immoral and even obscene/indecent books and messaging and the district doesn't think it's a problem; contentious and divisive activist groups both within Chelsea and from neighboring cities have increased their influence in Chelsea; the schools went to virtual learning in 2020 and it was a total disaster; they forced masks and quarantines on healthy kids even in 2021 when schools in Livingston and Jackson counties weren't being nearly as draconian. Washtenaw County is pushing a lot of requirements & ideologies on the district. Family values less welcomed here now. Recommend schools in Livingston County instead.
Well to start it off, a lot of my consideration I put into this rating falls on how well my teachers were. While it is going to be biased, I believe that bias can be crucial when evaluating how well a school is based on what teachers they hire. My classes I took this year all contributed to my learning and possible benefits to my future. I, a person who loves math, very much enjoyed the broad variety of business classes Chelsea High School had to offer such like personal finance, accounting, marketing, and business foundations. With each class they offer multiple intros into the real world experience. The others classes I took, for the most part, were enjoyable being that they combined some learning but occasionally fun projects or games. If i could change something, it should be the awkward scheduling which incorporated an hour break on Tuesdays and Thursday after second period. Chelsea has some issue with vaping so hopefully they can find a method to stop teens ruining their lives
It offers a very valuable and accredited education from grades K-12 in a small connected community with countless extra-curriculars and very personal and sincere connections with teachers who are supportive inside and outside the classroom. Couldn't ask for a better district to raise a kid through.
