I like the teachers that are working in the Champaign Community Unit 4 School District. The educators within the different schools is what really sticks out when looking at the district. They possess teachers that will go out of their way in order to see their students succeed. This is really put on display at the high school level where teachers are staying after school and using their lunches in order to provide assistance to the students who need it. Also that this is a district that is very inclusive and welcoming to students from all walks of life. Although those are all good things what I would like see changed is how they deal with disciplining students. I believe there is a reason for all actions and that there needs to be a professional present in order to help students who are going through life looking for solutions to their problems that are unable to be provided at home.
Overall I would say that my experience has been good, but the district has had its shortcomings. The resources and facilities have been poor... average at best, and there have been various safety concerns throughout my 13 years in this district. What really matters is that the majority of teachers I have had at Central High School are amazing. They are very dedicated to their jobs and to helping students in anyway they can. I have made some great friends and enjoyed many academic, artistic and athletic opportunities.
Honestly, it’s going downhill. Two of my kids can’t read and no one cares. They just make excuses and keep passing them onto the next grade. There are lots of caring empathetic people (staff & teachers) at the schools but it’s a crap education and a failing system. Daily safety concerns at the HS level. Be prepared to spend a lot of out of pocket $ to tutor your kids.
