Central City Community Schools is a good place to be in such a small community like Central City, but the transition from class of 45 to class of 6,000 in college is something that you can't really prepare for in a small school. The Fine Art program is very good here but like many other schools could use more funding and the athletics program has been getting better as the years go on. Academics wise some classes and teachers are very good and others have some growing to do. The Central City community is a good one to grow up in but leaving it is difficult especially if going to a public university or moving to a larger city.

Wonderful small school, super caring and involved staff. We feel very lucky to be open enrolled here. Lots of communication with parents, too. Every student feels important!
Teachers focus on students who can excel in the classroom and work on giving them challenging roles while students who struggle get the same help from them. They care about us succeeding all while preparing us for college along with some of the friendliest staff you will ever meet. Central City was the first school in the nation to have One on One laptops allowing students to take laptops home so they can all work on homework online and be given the resources that they need. They also pair up with Kirkwood to offer college courses to Juniors and Seniors, which can allow them to get a year (in some cases two!) ahead of college allowing the future college grads to get a four year degree in only two or three years. the programs available to the student body is extraordinary. STEM programs that have been seen by the Lt Governor and the Secretary of Education, fine arts programs taking consecutive Division I's, athletic programs that defeat past state champions, and so much more.
