Carroll County schools are consistently rated among the best in the state of Maryland, based on test scores. I've found the teachers and staff helpful and caring. The quality of the instructional material and schools, however, leave much to be desired. The Board of Education is beholden to a cohort of commissioners, so funding is sparse and decisions are made without much thought of the future - just immediate needs. If you are just starting a family, your the prospect of changing policies, school closures loom. Carroll County is very lacking in diversity as well, so children see a primarily white, rural and conservative population - and are often taught from that perspective as well.

My experience with Carroll County Public Schools has been an interesting, mixed one. While the teachers have only gotten better as I've advanced through the grades, the academics, administration, and school life have gotten more questionable. While teachers are typically very encouraging and intelligent, I have seen them struggle time and time again with the curriculum and administration (whether that be the rotation of principles/vice principles, poor attitudes towards their department, or lack of proper funding or an adequate salary). In addition, while I'm aware high schoolers are not fully grown, wise people, I have witnessed a lot of poor attitudes, rudeness, and intolerance through the years. Other schools/school districts obviously have it a lot worse, but as a high school senior I cannot wait to leave and expand my horizons in more positive, diverse places.
Carroll County Public Schools, prepares students for college. The teachers are well involved with the students and are always willing to take an extra step for the students. What Carroll County Public Schools need is more diversity understanding. Let the students understand that we are all equal and diverse. With this, it will create a better open environment for other and new students. Overall, the schools are great both educationally and administratively.
