I've been going to Cambridge Public schools for basically my whole life (except for 9th grade, I moved for a year). I went to the Kennedy-Longfellow School, where I stayed my whole elementary. Whenever I pass by it I get very pleasant nostalgic memories. I especially loved kindergarten, where we had nap time. After Kennedy, I went to Putnam Avenue Upper School. It's a fairly new middle school and while it wasn't the best due to the pandemic and all, those were probably the most chaotic 3 years of my life. I don't miss it as much as Kennedy, but I met 3 other friends there - we're still friends now as I'm in high school. High school. I currently attend Cambridge Rindge and Latin, one of the two public high schools in Cambridge. I like it so far, it's my first year. I made a couple new friends and the teachers are very friendly and welcoming. My rating for Cambridge Public schools is an overall 4/5!
Cambridge public schools lack the academic guidance every student needs to be utterly successful. Throughout my years of attending Cambridge public schools I had an advantage because of my knowledge and academic excellence. But it should not just stop there I have to move forward and that requires excessive guidance that the public schools do not provide. I need to know how to academically prepare myself for the next level of what another opportunity has to offer. Preparation is key; having a foundation to work with and build off of can go a long way.
I am very fortunate to have been able to attend Cambridge Public schools. The diversity allowed me to be surrounded by people very similar and very different from me. There was however a lot of racism, sexism, classism and ignorance. I hope they can hire more teachers of color in the future.
