I had a wonderful elementary experience. Caring, helpful teachers made me a successful student. I always felt nurtured and pushed to meet my potential. Middle school was a challenge for me. Being a student with an auditory processing disorder made things more difficult. As if middle school isn’t hard enough. Many teachers in middle school were not bought in to my modifications on my 504 plan. Therefore, I struggled with academics. Then, I began to give up and shut down. High school has been much better. Most teachers do what they can to help meet my modifications. My counselor has been supportive and more helpful than I could ever have hoped for. I am looking forward to graduation as a successful student.

In the Burke County school system, parents are encouraged to be hands-on during the child's education. The family involvement is great and they even have nights dedicated to it. Many times throughout the school year, the parents are invited to school functions, to meet with teachers and more. Burke County prides itself on its family involvement. The administration aspect could be improved. Before attending the school that I do now, the administration office was very relaxed and you had to reach out to them for everything. Once they knew of the problem, they fixed it or dealt with it very fast, but that initial reach towards them was difficult.
The teachers work to provide nurturing classrooms for students. The push for technology for all has provided up to date tech equipment to our schools. The opportunities for kids to go to our STEAM Academy, Burke Middle College, and Career and College Promise all promote collaboration with Western Piedmont Community College and the greater community.
