Rating 3.5 out of 5 14 reviews
Brodhead high school is for sporty socialite kids. If you're anything outside the box your time here will be miserable. I was kind, helpful, minded my business, and got good grades but people still found ways to single me out for simple things, i.e. liking anime or having dyed hair. The teachers were kind to me for the most part but quite a handful didn't know how to teach or engage a variety of kids. I often was made to feel inferior simply because my brain worked differently. I would ask for something to be explained differently and they just explained it in the same way and acted like I was the dumb one for not getting it. The ultra-smart, semi-basic athlete kids excel at this school so if you fit that mold go right ahead. Queer people are accepted but looked down upon and often get bullied. There is no diversity and it makes it hard to make friends. Prom and homecoming are honestly just sad. In every way, the experience at this school is isolating and provides few opportunities.
The Brodhead Schools overall make a decent district. Each school is excellent at preparing students for the next, giving them all of the resources they need to be successful at the next level. There are many amazing children in the district, and a lot of that has to do with the exceptional staff. The faculty works tirelessly to provide for their students, and most have very pleasant personalities and engaging teaching styles. The classes offered are great for helping a student decide what they would like to make a living doing. With many different clubs, sports teams and all-around opportunities within the school, students have many choices of what they do with their time. In summary, Brodhead School District promotes a great learning environment and excels at preparing students for the future.
It is a very small school where students get personalized attention and are attend to on a one-on-one basis. The teachers notice when students are excelling and offer assistance when they go through rough academics semesters. If you want diversity, it is not very diverse. Slowly, there is a growing number of diverse students. Discrimination is highly looked down upon and the staff take matters very seriously.
