Botetourt County Public Schools Reviews
I have experience as a student, taxpayer and a parent of students in this system. Children are not prepared for higher education, trades nor becoming an adult in society due to the constant shuffling of students through the sustem. Instead of allowing teachers to teach the children, there has been a system set in place for the SOL & the high importance of children passing these tests. There are very little programs allowed in the schools for creativity, independent thought nor a way for the children to fully absorb the information. Our children have never had a spelling bee (grades are given for the completion of work not accuracy), book report, term paper, reading list nor realistic goals. It has become a nightmare to where actually getting concerns answered is met with a smile and a feeling like a fourth rate person & honestly knowing that nothing is going to be done.
Excellent teachers who work well with students and are always willing to go the extra mile. It is a relatively small school district so teachers are able to get to know students on a more personal level. Parent input is accepted and asked for. The special education department works hard to meet the needs of students and offers many resources for parents. The school board encourages teachers/schools to try new ideas and gives them permission to work towards preparing students for the world after school. Many of the schools keep abreast of new ideas through book studies and visit neighboring schools to get new ideas.
Botetourt County public schools, helped me get to the path I am on now. As a student in Botetourt County, I always had the pleasure of having fine athletic facilities, small welcoming school enviornments, and good classmates. My only complaint is directed tword some, not all, of the office workers I had along the way. Some of them were cold and seemed toonly care about clocking out at the end of the day. Thank goodness I had teachers and guidence to help me get into college.
