The teachers and coaches are good at their job and really care about the students. It doesn't seem like the school board or our administrators care though.
Blairsville is overall terrible. They dont teach cursive anymore, don’t have enough substitutes so the other teachers teach their subject then go and teach a completely different subject to fill in for another teacher. Bullying is a big problem that they don’t deal with, they put to much money towards sports and not enough in supplies we need. I highly don’t recommend it!
I have attended Blairsville since kindergarten. In first grade I was put into their "Gifted Program", which is an embarrassment. The teachers are mostly nice but being a small school, there are favorites and 'legacy' students/families. Athletics are way more important than academics. There is a disgusting amount of bullying that the current administration does nothing about. I will be transferring to cyber this year. Elective choices are nothing special, AP classes available aren't great. Just all around an unhealthy environment for students. There is no diversity whatsoever, there is racism, sexism, homophobia, not only in the students body but within the teaching staff as well. I am truly disgusted by this school, it's a joke. If you have the option, do not send your child here. I could go on an on about everything wrong with this school but it's not even worth my energy anymore, I'll be leaving and never coming back.
My experience at Blairsville has been great I have created some of the best memories. The teachers are all great and are so easy to talk to. Being an athlete in three sports has really taught me about leadership and teamwork.
Although my school has thrived in the past, it is slowly on a downward decline. Especially in this last school year a lot of unnecessary changes have been made and almost the entire school system in itself has changed. We no longer have a Spanish teacher. We no longer have a librarian or an easily accessible library. The only printer in the entire middle and high school is kept within the inaccessible library. On top of all of this, many teachers are constantly over-stressed and it is a bit depressing. They are stressed because of how few substitute teachers will come to our school, so they have to teacher their own classes as well as fill in for missing teachers.
The teachers are very supportive, friendly, and caring. There isn't a high amount of bullying. The principal is awesome - he has a lot of inside jokes with a lot of students, is very friendly, and is always working hard at making sure everything is running smoothly. The guidance office is a bit lacking as there is only one guidance counselor at the moment.
I truly enjoyed my time here at Blairsville. I loved the students and organizations they offered. However, I am truly displeased with the effort put forth preparing students for post-high school education.
The teachers can get personal with the students. You aren't treated as someone in the class, your voice can be heard. Many activities for students to choose from.
I loved my years at Blairsville they have really prepared me for college. The teachers were amazing they really educated me not just on academics but also in real life. They have really helped me with finding a major and colleges. Blairsville also has a great sports program that gives you opportunity to have scholarships.
Blairsville is by-far the worst school I've ever been too. I could list many reasons why it is. From the food to the teachers and students, its terrible. The teachers are really helpful, but some are really rude and pick their favorite student out of the bunch. The students there were sometimes nice to me, my friends as well, but most were always getting WAY too carried away and not getting in trouble. Speaking about trouble, the schools bullying system is HORRIBLE, they do not set tough bullying rules, making it easy to do without getting in trouble. The lay out is confusing, expressly as a Middle School er, you had to go from the middle school the whole way to the High School in 3 minutes. Also the scheduling is really bad, we really do not get a choice of what we want. Clubs are nothing at Blairsville either. Overall, do not send your kid to this Terrible school.
Blairsville-Saltsburg school district has done a lot over their years to become more involved in the community and student lives, but their curriculum is very basic at best.
At the Saltsburg Elementary School, children were extremely rude and harmed my learning experience. Teachers and staff were no help. The Middle School had the same issues. I transitioned to Blairsville Middle School, where bullying and teacher harassment went down significantly. In Blairsville High School, these issues are at an all-time-low. We're taught what we need to learn by decent teachers (mostly) and have the opportunity to attend a technical school in the afternoons.
The administration needs to be changed and the school needs to either consolidate or split. There has been ongoing talks about this but they have never done anything with it
Most of the teachers that I have encountered were very helpful. They seemed to care about my education, but at the same time we're not too serious and we're not hostile.
