I have had a great experience. As a college prep, it pushes you to be your best. The teachers are very helpful and are eager to answer any questions you may have for them. The facilities are old, but they have made the best effort to create a safe and comfortable space. Because of these reasons, I strongly recommend Black River Pubic School to any students or families interested in attending. This school is very small but that is what makes it such a high quality education. The teachers know all their students by name and have a close relationship with them as the classes are quite small. The classes are very quick pace and if not familiar with that environment, students may struggle at first to get ahold of the expectations for each class. But in the end, the education is very strong and all the teachers are extremely qualified to be doing what they are doing.
Black river public school is a special enigma, and one that I'm only beginning to understand the impactbof later.
First, the positives: many members of the staff are very caring, the school offered me a certain amount of freedom. The music programs were also pretty great.
The problem is, that black river is a very competiton based school for a schol that doesn't rank the student. And for all the preassure they put on you to go to college, they do not help you apply or get there. There are no college or class counselors who could help with important college questions at all.
They like to put the statistic in the news paper that 100 percent of graduates are accepted into a 4 year college or universtiy. They don't add that acceptance into a college or university. Black River churns out anxious student who aren't prepared for the realities of the world. While I am grateful for the teachers, I really think Holland Public Schools would have suited me just fine.

For the majority of my time at Black River it has been positive, however the last two years of high school have begun to show less admirable signs. The lack of helpfulness in how to apply to colleges is very irritating and stressful, and the pressure of the senior project is definitely weighing as if you don't do well you will not graduate. The lack of communication on some of these critical components of this school is what has brought my perspective of attending here down. However, its not all bad most of the teachers are nice and good at interacting with students in their own ways and the education gained is far above the standard of most other schools in the area.
