Bettendorf Community School District Reviews
I love that it has a great education program! However, the staff is not diverse, which may feel some students feel they are not represented. I also wish that we could educate our students on not having racial prejudice. The majority of students are white, privileged students, and I believe that the school keeps them in a protective bubble. If we encouraged more volunteering opportunities or lessons on how other schools run, I believe our school would be more appreciative.
Since transferring, Bettendorf has offered many academic opportunities. I appreciate the variety of opportunities to take college courses, earn college credit, and take advanced classes that will benefit students throughout college and their future lives. Although my education is greater, I was disappointed with how NHS is ran. Student council takes care of the community volunteer opportunities for NHS and it creates a lack of fundraisers and activities for the NHS program. The teachers are very flexible and treat the student as they are adults. Homework is very heavy in many classes and it does makes having a job, doing sports, having a social life, or working very difficult. The overall school building is very well-kept and clean.
As a current college student, looking back at my time at Bettendorf, it was mostly filled with lots of fun, learning, and great experiences. I was a part of the FTC Robotics team at the high school, the marching and concert bands, varsity soccer for four years and varsity basketball for two. It's super easy to get involved and teachers are excited about those students who put for the effort to be in extracurriculars. I believe Bettendorf got me ready for college as well as it could and I'm appreciative of that. One of the only true downfalls of the high school was the admin. The Athletic Director was an awesome guy who truly looked out for ALL athletes and worked hard to make sure our experience was one to remember. But other than him... the Principal and Vice Principal were not widely liked. Odd people, but if you steer clear, you'll have no problems. All in all an excellent school and a great place to learn!
