I've been a member of this district since kindergarten. My experience with Paul Norton Elementary was very positive, I had excellent teachers and lots of friends. Bettendorf Middle School did a nice job of preparing me for high school and allowed me to start getting involved with several of the extracurriculars I am now in today, as a senior. Attending Bettendorf High School has been an overall positive experience for me as well. My teachers have all been very helpful, available, and clearly want me to succeed. I have had so many wonderful opportunites to get involved within the school, whether it be clubs, sports, or the fine arts. Lastly, a variety of challengings courses and dual credit enrollment opportunities are offered. My senior year has allowed me to take a lot of courses in my intended area of study in college and even get some college credit already done.
I have attended Bettendorf Community Schools since I first started school, from K-12. I have never endured a problem while attending these school, but I have seen a variety of things that both student and faculty have complained about. That does come with every community though, nothing is perfect and is always open to improvement. I think Bettendorf has done a great job improving for the both students and faculty and it does not go unnoticed. While attending these schools, I feel like I have always been prepared for the years ahead of me, while not perfect or fully reading, I can go into further schooling with more confidence. These schools have shaped the student I am today and I am thankful for my parents decision to enroll me in these schools.
For the most part, I've enjoyed my time at Bettendorf High School and in the BCSD. Recently however, as I've become more aware, I've become increasingly frustrated with the school board and the people who are supposed to be representing me. I strongly disagree with some of the opinions of some of the members, namely the member who seemed to not believe that COVID was real for months until it personally impacted his life. I think they've made some poor decisions when it came to pandemic safety. Other than my personal political disagreements with the school, I feel the staff has treated me well while in the classroom, with some going above and beyond when I was online last year.
