District loves to notify students and parents about important information at the very last minute, causing absolute inconvenience for everyone involved. Planning ahead seems impossible for Bethel School District. Whenever I mention that I attend Bethel High School, 99% of the time, the response I receive is some variation of “Yikes. Bethel was much better back in the day compared to today.” Surveys are given to students as to “give insight” into the thoughts and problems are having with their schools, but nothing is done about the responses given in the surveys, making utterly useless, and making students feel unheard. Overall, the district has the talent of giving a multitude of people a collective headache.
The teachers and staff are, for the most part, lovely. They love their job, they put in the time and effort to help their students succeed, etc. The students, however, are some of the worst people I've ever met. They go out of their way to make it more difficult for you to get an education. I've seen kids get bullied to the point of crippling depression and anxiety. Some people will bully you out of opportunity, not because of reason. Others will make it the focal point of their time at school. The teachers aren't big help, only giving lectures to students about harassment. Overall, I would advise caution to those looking to enter Bethel.
There is a place for everyone in the Bethel School District. Since entering the district in the third grade, I have never felt as if I did not belong. Having friends and teachers around that made me feel included and valued have made my elementary, middle and high school experiences everything I could have asked for. The district not only provides a good education, but opportunities for its students to strive for further possibilities as well as medical and emotional support. I could not ask for a better district to send me into the next phase of my life.
