The Belton School District had recently implemented a new program of "Academies." These include the Business and Technology Academy, the Science and Industry Academy, and finally the Public Services Academy. I would say the idea of the academies is great. However, it can add some restraint to a students school life. For example, a student from the Public Services Academy would like to take a course they are genuinely interested in but it is technically a part of another academy. No matter how early that student expresses they want to take said course (say by submitting their schedule early prior to most students in the academy with the wanted course) if there a a bunch of people from the academy that have to take said course but may not necessarily want to, the other kids are automatically put ahead of the Public Services Academy student. Like I said the idea of the academies overall is great but with some changes in how they are currently being run, the academies would be astounding.
In my twelve years of schooling through the Belton school district, I have met so many friends, as well as some amazing teachers! Some of my favorite teachers were the ones that wouldn't hold back and made sure that if you needed help they were there to give it. One of those teachers would be Mr. Prejean, he helped me so much my senior year and taught me valuable information for applying for college and scholarships, as well as writing essays and English comprehension.
I have attended Belton schools since kindergarten. Each school I went to had amazing staff and students. I suffer from severe anxiety and I have a 504 plan. Every one of my teachers since kindergarten have done a great job of honoring that plan and helping me out when I need it. Belton does whatever they can to ensure that the students attending their schools are happy, healthy, and safe. The education is amazing and the teachers all have great methods of teaching. They accommodate students who can't learn as well as others and help those students to the best of their ability. Going to Belton schools my whole life has been a great experience!
