I've lived in Beachwood and attended the school for about 6 years now, and it's definitely been some of the best years of my life. The teachers are very friendly, and will never judge you. It's a friendly environment with classes tailored to fit your needs. The only thing I would say, was, sometimes, even in the gifted program, you want to be more challenged, and you can feel as though you've learned all of the topics they're teaching. If these happens, you can always apply to skip a grade / a math level. Other than that, the Beachwood school system is amazing, and don't hesitate on joining here!
As a minority, a South Korean, I felt very comfortable every day when I walked through the halls. Beachwood is known as a Jewish community, yet we are the most diverse community compared to the many surrounding districts. The education is also extraordinary. The teachers help us to see and reach as far as our potential goes and I'm lucky to be a student here. Whenever I struggled or felt overwhelmed, the mindset of everyone at Beachwood has, which is to be the best me I can be, helped me continue my efforts and become an improved me. Additionally, the school events, sports teams, clubs, the music, and more all contributed to my love of Beachwood. Being a musician, a swimmer, a runner, and a learner, I am blessed that Beachwood was fully capable of allowing my passions to nourish. One matter that I believe could greatly improve is overall school spirit. Individually, the members of each sports team are plenty spirited. But as a whole, the students could be a bit more enthusiastic.
Beachwood has a tendency to harbor a very harsh and unwelcoming atmosphere. While I feel a certain amount of obligation to support my place of graduation, I know that I did not truly enjoy my high school experience here. While BWSD may be the kind of place for (the rare) students who excel in rigid, never ending schoolwork... for students who benefit from a more relaxed setting and large array of extracurriculars and electives, we’re a bit out of luck. Due to its small size, the high school especially is not a very large array of options, thus producing a very specific type of student; stressed, overworked, rigid, closed minded, and somewhat untrustworthy. Teachers are fair, I do wish they’d put more effort into finding staff that has the intent to make change rather than to make comfort and settle. It’s a really odd school to attend, hence its somewhat unpleasant image to surrounding neighborhoods.
