I like the fact that my parents attend the same schools I went to. So most of my teachers were my parents classmates. I would like to see more focused on bettering the quality of education and college preparedness. Now that I am soon to be entering my first year of college and have been in contact with other parish schools, I feel like conversations are over my head. Other area schools have such a better and different course for students. But, unfortunately, I was not able to attend better schools. Another change I would like to see is qualified teachers. Most teachers at my school were not qualified and were just as lost as some students. We also needed better facilities. Our school was fairly old and used. It had some repairs done but needed more, especially to the bathrooms. I played basketball and was embarrassed when visiting schools had to use or bathrooms. Staff tried their best along with students to keep them clean and maintained, but they were so old and outdated.
I attend Bunkie Magnet High in Avoyelles Parish. My school had provided excellent college-prep classes along with well qualified teachers. I have been afforded the opportunity to take dual-enrollment classes at LSUA. Avoyelles Public School System is continuing to work hard to provide students with a safe and lasting education.
Avoyelles Parish schools have things they need to attend to. There are many things that can be fixed, but when I attended High School, the teachers I had motivated me to be the best I could be. There were moments I felt I wanted to give up and they continuously pushed me. There is room for improvements though. One thing I would like to see improved is the teachers showing more dedication to their students. When a teacher does this, it gives the students the drive they need.
