Despite much of the hype surrounding the Avon Public Schools, we have been underwhelmed since moving to the district. At least compared to schools in the greater Charlotte area, a few things stood out to us about the Avon schools.
First, the schools themselves are OLD and unimpressive. The athletic facilities are also lacking - even with the new turf field at the HS, the facilities still are far behind what people not from CT may be used to (e.g. no school pools). Bus transportation is spotty and kids spend a long time on the bus.
Class sizes are average, technology is average, and resources seem average as well.
In short, while Avon is a good choice among Hartford area schools, families from out-of-state may be disappointed.

When going to schools in Avon, CT, the teachers were very welcoming, and worked with students when they struggled throughout all grade levels.
I have been in the Avon Public Schools system for 13 years and I have always thought that it was outstanding. The majority of teachers deeply care for their students and want them to succeed.
