Avery County Schools is a great system. There are some things that are not understandable, but not anything bad.
As any school, I think they are biased towards people with "reputations". There are teacher pets and troublemakers. Overall, I have enjoyed my time in this school system, I have been apart of my whole life. Glad I stayed with them.
I think that facilities need to be updated. They are very old and need repairing. Also seniors need to be better prepared for college. I feel as if you aren't truly college ready when you leave Avery.
I had very pleasant experiences in both the schools I visited within Avery County. The teachers want the best for their students, and also friendly. The school spirit could be better, but every school has its flaws. They are nice small town schools with great opportunities.
I had a wonderful time in ACS, but the system certainly has its faults in leadership, administration, facilites, finances, etc. Many faculty & staff members are wonderful people with a passion for education while others get by on the bare minimum.
I think Avery County Schools are very good. Ever since elementary school I feel I have had a personal relationships with most teachers and that they actually care about my education. The athletics at Avery County High School are very good and we have had several state championships in wrestling and track. The academics here are very good as we are available to AP classes and dual enrollment through Mayland College. We also have several honors classes. I feel our school is adequate with college readiness, we have several people to help us with enrollment and essays to write for college. I feel sometimes we are not adequately prepared though in certain areas. Overall Avery County schools are very good.
During my time at Avery High I liked the overall atmosphere, there we not a lot of major problems with the school itself such as faculty, safety, and grading. But I would like to see that there are more opportunities for involvement with the community. As well as more preparation for college.
The teachers and staff are amazing and really care about their students. They work hard to ensure that students are learning and growing. However the school system is underfunded.
These schools are pretty good, except for the high school itself. I love most of the teachers and most of the staff is amazing. The building, on the other hand, is having structure issues and they have been putting off building another one for years now. There has been mold down stairs, as well as sewage problems, and has been fixed temporarily, but not fully.
I attended Avery County Schools for my entire school career. The teachers are friendly and personable and I believe I received a good education there. While it is small, there were some amazing opportunities for us to learn from, such as the high school's Project Lead The Way program for biomedical and engineering classes.
