I think Avery County Schools are very good. Ever since elementary school I feel I have had a personal relationships with most teachers and that they actually care about my education. The athletics at Avery County High School are very good and we have had several state championships in wrestling and track. The academics here are very good as we are available to AP classes and dual enrollment through Mayland College. We also have several honors classes. I feel our school is adequate with college readiness, we have several people to help us with enrollment and essays to write for college. I feel sometimes we are not adequately prepared though in certain areas. Overall Avery County schools are very good.
I had very pleasant experiences in both the schools I visited within Avery County. The teachers want the best for their students, and also friendly. The school spirit could be better, but every school has its flaws. They are nice small town schools with great opportunities.
I had a wonderful time in ACS, but the system certainly has its faults in leadership, administration, facilites, finances, etc. Many faculty & staff members are wonderful people with a passion for education while others get by on the bare minimum.
