My time at AP has been decent. It’s an overall white demographic, which isn’t the best for a diverse teaching style, but the teachers do their best. There are a few teachers, specifically at the High School, that really shouldn’t be working, but that’s only a small fraction of the staff. I was bullied in AP, but it wasn’t the typical upfront kind. It was the pseudo-bullying. The talking behind backs and isolation. They aren’t that great at handling cases in the higher level schools, but the elementary schools are proactive in preventing it. All in all a decent school, definitely better than a few other districts in the capital region.
Averill Park isn’t the safest school, theatre could be advertised more, parent involvement low, the rescorces however exist and are very effective, the administration listens and acts accordingly. Inforcements of rules could change. The student council is strong and active
Like every small town school, the kids are tight knit. Everyone knows everyone. If you want a sense of community, this is the right district. Moving to this district will allow for you to grow with all of the extracurricular activities and all of the different classes. There are sports such as soccer, tennis, bowling, volleyball, football, etc... And clubs such as Theater (which is now a class too), gardening, Best buddies, key club, debate, etc... There are AP classes and honors classes along with the regents classes. The teachers are very capable, especially in the science department.
