Rating 4.3 out of 5 73 reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the Arlington district. The elementary schools are small and very personalized, with a "homey" feel where the teachers truly know all the students in the building. The middle schools were larger and offered more extra-curricular activities just as students were ready to become more independent and explore our interests. The high school was much larger and although we did not get to know all the other students and teachers personally, we met new people all the time and there were clubs, sports and activities available to everyone. I enjoyed the diversity of the student body and the overall school spirit. I knew the teachers cared about me as a person and wanted me to be successful. Even the security guards and hall monitors were always super friendly and welcoming. In the midst of the difficult pandemic, the administration and staff at Arlington afforded us a 2020 graduation ceremony that went above and beyond our expectations. Thanks AHS!
Positives: It is a large district with many resources. Offer a quality education. A lot of opportunities for students to participate is extra curricular programs. Lots of parent and community involvement. Excellent Music and sports program. Negatives: Not very diverse, could do more to teach diversity in the younger grades, as early as 1st grade. The High School start time is too early, the district needs to consider later start times. There are many studies that reference the negative impact to students that start too early and the positive impact of later starts. As far as technology the district should be more advanced, especially at the High School level not all teachers are using the school website to post work and communicate on a consistent basis which would allow students the ability to ensure that they have access to assignments and class resources as needed. All H.S. students should have a laptop to use. Technical skills facilitate a students readiness for college and beyond
My overall high school experience has gone through its ups and downs, like many students would say. I appreciate all the classes, clubs and oppurtunities that Arlington has to offer, along with the help they provide for the students if they are struggling with a topic. There would be times where I truly didn't know which elective to sign up for because I was conflicted with a couple and my schedule couldn't fit it all! I am glad I got the experience of branching off and trying classes that I wouldn't even think of taking. The few things I would like to see change in Arlington, are stopping gym make ups, college readiness and the communication within the school. Overall, I am glad to say that I am going to Arlington and I am very thankful for the friends I have made through the school and the many opportunities I have been opened to.
