There are so many opportunities and ways to get involved. Most of the teachers are great! The staff cares about your education and helps you. There are also a ton of classes to chose from. I have been going to Ankeny since kindergarten and haave had a pretty good experience overall.

It was very boring for someone like me. This school district prides itself on academic and sports performance but their art classes lacked the sort of magic that an art class should have. There are usually only one or two art teachers per school, and the two high schools have to share teachers. All the budget seemed to be put into meaningless events and none was invested in having a well rounded curriculum choice or quality art teachers. It was very much like they were saying "hey kids, go into math and science or literature and theatre." There was little to no incentive to pursue art. While the quality of the classes for the required courses were hit-or-miss, I lament the missed opportunities for the visual art field simply because there was bare minimum investment from our benefactors, especially as someone who is now pursing a career in graphic design.
There were many positives and negatives of Ankeny High School just like any other school. One positive about the district is the commitment to putting kids first. Every adult I ever met in the buildings was about putting the kids learning before their own wants. This resonated with me because I want to be a educator myself and I want to have this kind of attitude towards my kids learning.
