There are lots of AP classes, so you can get a heads-up on college. This is a very large school with about 1500 students, so you must be a very good student to thrive here. Average students get lost in the crowd so to speak. There are lots of clubs and sports to choose from. Even if you are an excellent student, it will be difficult for you to get into leadership roles or make the honor society (even if you are graduating in the top 5% of your class). There is some preferential treatment amount teachers/administration.

I enjoyed my time at Altoona Area School District because the teachers were excellent. I had an English teacher who really tried to prepare us for college. I think they have great security measures when it comes to keeping the students safe. If there were threats they had metal detectors, however, maybe they should have them every day just to be safe. I would like to see some change in the way they handle bullying. There have been lots of incidents at the schools dealing with bullying that have caused some children to actually commit suicide. I think finding a way for them to handle bullying rather it keep happening would really be good for them.
My personal experience with AASD is overall fairly positive. The content taught in classes is more than manageable for me, and I have rarely had any issues with any of my peers. While I may not have enjoyed the subjects themselves, I have rarely encountered a teacher that made my experience in classes extremely poor.

However, my main complaint derives from how content is presented to students.

Recently "Collins Writings" were introduced to us. Essentially, they are small assignments meant to make students write more. In some cases, though, these writings have little to do with what is taught, and teachers only give them because they have to. This causes frustration for me and many others, as it distracts from more important topics we should be covering.
