Agua Fria High School is far from being perfect, but it is also far from being terrible. In my honest opinion, it's just your average high school. Nothing truly sticks out apart from being in a low-income neighborhood, but aside from that, there's nothing crazy-unique about the school.

However, although the building itself looks quite dull and the environment mainly consists of rocks and brick, I still had a good experience attending Agua Fria. I've made quite the handful of friends--all of whom are just as determined as I am to have a great and stable future. I've had the opportunity to meet fantastic teachers, and I've been able to step out of my comfort zone and participate in a few clubs. My school counselor has also been a wonderful help to me, especially when it came to applying for colleges and scholarships.

The only thing I could ask for of the school is to provide more resources for classes, especially for courses like physics and chemistry.

For me, Agua Fria High School wasn't the best experience, but it wasn't the worst. The students are majorly Mexican, so as an African American student I witnessed some ignorance from some students, and I felt like there were a few like me. The teachers are pretty good, they are very passionate about their jobs, as far as the classes I have taken. I tend to take the AP, accelerated, and honors classes. The campus needs some renovation because it is some history to it. There are many opportunities to show school spirit and there is a good portion of the school that actively participates. I wish we had a little more freedom to roam around during lunch, but I do understand the importance of increased security. Lastly, I wish that the school made extra efforts to be fair to all students and control behavior a little more, but students overall are pretty behaved.
The AFUHSD was an enjoyable time, but not without some bumps in the road. Overall, thanks to a solid selection of AP teachers, the appreciation of arts programs, and the high level of communication between the administration to the parent/student base, I definitely would call it a good school district. However, some key things hold it back. The most notable is the lack of post high school resources and proper safety measures. My school, as an example, does not have 4 walls, which makes lockdowns very stressful.
